As I’m sure you’ve noticed, our 4th grade teachers have been working diligently with your students to ensure they meet all 4th grade academic standards and are well prepared for continued success in 5th grade. With this said, we want to inform you that we will be making a change to the structure of 5th grade starting next school year, 2018-2019. Students will receive all of their core content instruction in the areas of: English/Language Arts, Writing, Math, Science, & Social Studies from just one homeroom teacher throughout the entire day just as they have in grades K-4. They will also continue to receive instruction in the special areas of: STEM, Music, Art, & PE with a built in Learning Lab.
We have been very thoughtful about making this change and feel it will make a positive impact on our students academically as well as socially and emotionally. Students will be placed in 5th grade classes (3) over the summer. You will be informed of your child’s 5th grade placement during our July ILP Informational Sessions.
In looking ahead to the 2019-2020 school year, Mrs. Nielsen will begin to work with students to begin preparing them for their transition from 5th to 6th next spring. Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mendoza
